A while back, a good friend of mine asked me to explain why American Jews appeared to be split in their support for Israel. Much of the answer to that important question can be found in the article cited above.
Norman Finkelstein; an American and I assume a Jew, at least from his Jewish sounding name, is an example of a complete idiot without a shred of intelligence in his being. However, in America and in Israel he is allowed to spout his ridiculous theories without repercussion because the two countries value protected free speech. The downside to people like Finkelstein is that there are always other people out there who are gullible enough to believe his theories and still others with anti-Semitic agendas who will use his Jewish sounding name as proof and support for their hatred of Jews and of Israel.
My conclusion is; just because you are American and Jewish, you do not necessarily know what you are talking about when it comes to explaining Israeli history or current events. However, this person does go a long way to explain why the American Jewish community is split in it's support for the State of Israel.
